MPA of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Visit the National University of Singapore for Public Administration Training

During May 28, - June 3, 2017, led by Dr. Li Huiping, director of MPA Overseas Dept., Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, 18 MPA graduate students from the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics participated in the public administration training program provided by the National University of Singapore during 5 teaching days. The tutor team consisted of a group of professors with extensive teaching and practical experience from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.

 

 

MPA students from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics attended a series of courses, including “Innovative Practice of Public Administration in Singapore” by Professor Wu Yuanhua, “Comprehensive Management of Social Order and Maintenance of Public Places Order in Singapore” by Deputy Director Li Zhichao, “How to Build Singapore into An International Livable City” and “One Belt, One Road and Infrastructure Construction” by Professor Gu Qing-yang, “Public Finance and Tax System in Singapore” by Professor Chen Qiye, “Public Management System Innovation: The Role of Social Organizations” by Professor Chen Kang, etc., which ensured an in-depth understanding of the legal construction, urban management, taxation system, etc. in Singapore and a valuable learning experience.

During the training visit, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore also arranged visits and on-site teaching at the Housing Development Board (HDB), Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), NEWater Plant, etc., as well as mobile classroom of urban old streets reconstruction and cultural protection. The lively forms of classroom enabled a more intuitive understanding of Singapore’s public housing estates, old streets and shops reconstruction, urban planning and how to seek development in crisis, etc.

Participants in this short-term training program in Singapore were quite satisfied with the curriculum setting, and impressed by the charm of Singapore, the Garden City and the meticulous administrative work of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. They were quite willing to share their learning experiences and also encouraged their friends to participate in such training programs.
